WHAT IS THE 13CALORIEDIET?
The principal of the 13caloriediet is that many adults with a low activity level, (and most people over the age of 55), require approximately 13 calories for each pound of their bodyweight, in order to maintain that bodyweight.
Medline Plus Encyclopedia has defined a low activity level as: "no planned regular physical activity; occasional weekend or weekly activity, such as golf or recreational tennis, being the only type of physical activity."
For example, a 140 lb. person with a low activity level (or over 55 years of age) would require approximately 1820 calories per day (140 lbs. times 13 calories) in order to maintain his/her bodyweight.
And if a person was overweight, and wanted to get down to 200 lbs., then that person, with a low activity level, should try to consume no more than 2600 calories per day (200 lbs. times 13 calories) in order to get down to the 200 lb. desired weight.
